HT PhD Student & Postdoc Symposium 2025: “Research in Motion”
After the success of its inaugural edition (view pictures – video), which gathered over 100 participants, the HT PhD Student & Postdoc Symposium returns for its second year on 30 September 2025.
The Symposium is a cornerstone institutional event and a platform for HT PhD students and postdocs to present their research, gain feedback, and engage with peers and senior scientists. With over 150 early-career researchers working across diverse fields, the event offers a snapshot of the vibrant scientific activity at Human Technopole.
Under the theme “Research in Motion: Dynamics in Time, Space, and Technology,” this year’s edition reflects the ever-evolving nature of HT’s research across disciplines. The programme will include scientific talks, interactive Q&A sessions, two poster sessions, and a highly anticipated Keynote Lecture by Prof. Sir David Klenerman, co-developer of next-generation DNA sequencing technology and recipient of the 2020 Millennium Technology Prize.
This year’s theme explores three central axes of dynamic scientific progress:
Time: Change over time is a core principle of biology and a fundamental aspect of much of the research happening at HT.
Space: Biology is dynamic in nature – proteins, complexes, and cellular structures are constantly moving, adapting and changing within their environment.
Technology: New technologies are a driving force behind research advancement in the life sciences, from the development of new lab equipment to advancements in technologies like microscopy to new applications of artificial intelligence.

Human Technopole’s National Facilities have launched their third round of access, starting 1 October 2025, inviting researchers to submit proposals for access to cutting-edge technologies in genomics, genome engineering, structural biology, light imaging, and data analysis. The opening comes in a context of strong momentum: since mid-2024, the National Facilities have received 293 proposals in total, with a 36% rise between the pilot and the first call, granting access to 184 projects with a success rate above 60%.
The Glastonbury Group at Human Technopole has been awarded a competitive grant as part of the “From Bed To Bench: the way to innovation” funding programme promoted by the Fondazione Regionale per la Ricerca Biomedica (FRRB). The study, funded with 2.000.000 euros, 600.000 of which will go to the Glastonbury group directly, will begin in late 2025 and run for 3 years.
On 10 June, Human Technopole marks the one-year anniversary of the official opening of its National Facilities, a key milestone in our mission to support excellence in life sciences across Italy. Celebrating this important date, we are pleased to announce that the new Call for Access to the National Facilities is now open. Researchers can submit their proposals until 30 September 2025.
On 27 and 28 March, the SIEC (Standing Independent Evaluation Committee), visited HT to discuss the results of the first call for access, which was considered a pilot phase, and refine the upcoming call, planned to be published at the beginning of June 2025.
Human Technopole has presented 102 research projects that were the first to benefit from the cutting-edge equipment of the National Facilities — the advanced technologies that the Institute makes available to external researchers from across Italy. The majority of studies focus on cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, accounting for 50% of the selected projects. The announcement was made this morning in Milan during “Open HT – The Open Day on Life Sciences”, an event designed to showcase Human Technopole’s achievements and outline future goals.
