UniMi and Human Technopole strengthen collaboration on research and education
Scientific research in the life sciences, materials science, biomedical and environmental fields, alongside joint education programmes and reciprocal access to laboratories and infrastructure, are at the heart of the six-year agreement through which the two institutions are strengthening their cooperation as key players in MIND – Milano Innovation District.
The University of Milan and Human Technopole have signed a new agreement establishing a long-term strategic collaboration in research and education, further strengthening the cooperation developed between the two institutions in recent years. The new agreement supersedes and replaces the previous one, defining more effective forms of collaboration that are fully aligned with the legal and regulatory frameworks applicable to both institutions, with the aim of supporting the development of future joint initiatives.
The six-year agreement is designed to promote joint activities across key areas of scientific research, with a particular focus on the life sciences, materials science, biomedical sciences and environmental sciences. It will enhance the already close collaboration within MIND – Milano Innovation District, where the University of Milan’s new science campus will be located alongside Human Technopole, creating an integrated research, innovation and education ecosystem with an international outlook.
“The renewal of our agreement with Human Technopole confirms the strength of a collaboration capable of generating value for Italy’s research and innovation system. Within the MIND ecosystem, we share the ambition of building a unique environment in which scientific, technological and educational expertise can come together and reinforce one another. I firmly believe that the major challenges of our time – from health and sustainability to digital transformation and scientific competitiveness – require strategic alliances between institutions capable of pooling their vision, knowledge and infrastructure. This renewal therefore represents not only the continuation of a successful journey, but also an investment in the future of research and in Italy’s ability to play a leading role internationally,” said Marina Brambilla, Rector of the University of Milan.
In addition to the development of joint research projects, including through participation in competitive national and international calls for proposals, the Memorandum provides for staff mobility, reciprocal access to research infrastructure and laboratories, the establishment of joint education and training programmes, and the organisation of scientific events such as seminars, workshops and symposia.
“The proximity of Human Technopole and the University of Milan’s new science campus represents an extraordinary opportunity to open a new phase in our collaboration and to build an increasingly integrated research and education hub at MIND that can compete at the highest international level. The new agreement establishes a solid framework for bringing together complementary expertise, sharing advanced scientific infrastructure and developing new joint projects. At the same time, it will offer students and early-career researchers an interdisciplinary environment in which they can learn, exchange ideas and develop projects, while contributing to addressing some of the major challenges in health and the life sciences,” said Marino Zerial, Director of Human Technopole.
To coordinate and monitor the initiatives, a joint Steering Committee will be established, comprising representatives of Human Technopole and the University of Milan. The Committee will oversee the development of joint activities and periodically assess their outcomes.
