Karla Alejandra Ruiz Ceja

Karla is a bioinformatician at Human Technopole, where she builds and maintains analysis pipelines for large-scale sequencing datasets, carrying them from raw reads through to interpretable results. She develops workflows, primarily in Nextflow, making them reproducible, portable across computing environments, and scalable to large sample cohorts.
She holds a BSc in Biology from UNAM, Mexico, and an MSc in Genomic Medicine from the University of Manchester. She completed her PhD in Molecular Biology at TIGEM, Italy, as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN StarT Early Stage Researcher, the stage at which she moved from wet-lab biology into bioinformatics and computational data analysis.
Her work sits at the interpretation end of the transcriptomics workflow: designing modular, well-documented pipelines that turn complex sequencing output into reliable biological signal. She has a particular focus on non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), specially in miRNAs and lncRNAs, developing dedicated workflows to detect, quantify, and characterize RNA species that standard analyses often overlook.
