Description/Purpose:

In recent years, nuclear RNAs have emerged as fundamental regulators of genome structure and function in mammalian cells, and mounting evidence points to DNA-interacting RNAs as potential therapeutic targets in multiple disorders. Hence, deciphering the repertoire of DNA-RNA interactions and their functional roles in different cellular and tissue contexts is an exciting emerging research area that promises to deliver valuable pharmaceutical target leads and is deemed to become increasingly popular in the years to come.

For these reasons, we wish to leverage our in-depth expertise in the field, and our scientific network to organise this first-of-its-kind meeting. The workshop will be entirely focused on the biology and therapeutic implications of DNA-RNA interactions, by bringing together internationally renowned scientists in the field and academic and industry researchers to present the state-of-art and discuss future directions of this exciting research topic.

The event is organised by Piero Carninci, Head of the HT Genomics Research Centre – Functional Genomics Programme, Magda Bienko, Group Leader in the HT Genomics Research Centre, Nicola Crosetto, Senior Manager of the HT Genomics Technologies Development Unit, Francesco Nicassio, Coordinator of the IIT Center for Genomic Science and Pelin Sahlén, Associate Professor at the Royal Institute of Technology.

The 3-day agenda is organised around seven sessions, each featuring 3-4 invited speakers and 2 speakers to be selected among PhD student/postdoc applicants. We also plan to include one Keynote Lecture delivered by a World-class scientist on the topic of therapeutic implications of DNA-RNA nuclear transactions.

We aim at reaching around 200 participants, mainly attracting PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-stage independent researchers, and at offering several opportunities for scientific interactions and networking throughout the meeting. Satellite events for the lay public will also be organised.
