Target Audience: Scientists, inventors, early-career TTOs & KTOs working in academic institutions in all disciplines related to life sciences (including but not limited to biology; biotechnology; immunology; medicine; chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry; computer science, including analysis of big data, machine learning, and AI). Individuals from Italian Universities, Italian Research Institutes, and Italian researchers operating in foreign research institutions will have priority. Max 25 participants.

The Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer, in collaboration with Netval (Network for Research Valorisation), and the University of Milan (Entrepreneurship and Spin-Off Office), is launching the CITT Annual Training on Technology Transfer Fundamentals.

This training course is a good kickstart for anyone with a career in life science interested in transforming their ideas and inventions into solutions that benefit society. This course is also a good opportunity for building or advancing a career in technology transfer. It will cover essential aspects, including IP protection and valorisation from licensing to startup creation. It will offer theoretical presentations, hands-on group activities, and case study discussions.

Course objectives and learning outcomes

  • Grasp how public research organisations drive innovation and fulfil their “third mission” beyond education and research
  • Provide a comprehensive understanding of the valorisation of research results, innovation, and technology transfer processes in the life sciences
  • Discover strategies for IP protection and valorisation through licensing and business creation
  • Understand the roles and practices of the different actors involved in the innovation chain
  • Develop new skills to facilitate the collaborative dynamics between scientists, technology transfer officers, investors and industry

 

How to apply

Check eligibility criteria. Complete the registration form and submit your CV, motivation letter, and the presentation of a business idea to develop during the course to [email protected] by 26 September 2025.

  • CV (please include your field of expertise, as well as any other information about previously attended workshops or courses about technology transfer)
  • Motivation letter (introduce yourself, and tell us why you are interested in taking part in the course; discuss any relevant academic or professional experiences that have sparked your interest in this field; mention any specific projects or initiatives you are involved in that would benefit from the training)
  • Business idea: share a one-page description of a business idea you would like to develop during the course.

Candidates will be scored according to their fit to the characteristics listed in the section “target participants”, and according to the clarity, quality, and originality of the business idea presented. Candidates should not share/disclose information that could preclude patentability or competitive advantage of their business case.

Course requirements: Participants shall bring their devices (i.e., laptops, iPads, tablets)

This training course is free of charge for all participants. External costs (e.g., travel and accommodation expenses) will not be covered.
