Johann Georg Tralles

Johan Tralles was a German mathematician and chemist. He participated as representative of Switzerland in the International Bureau of Weights and Measures which defined the metric system. He was responsible for the discovery of a particular type of hydrometer which determines the alcohol content of water and alcohol mixtures. In 1819 he identified a Great Comet which took his name.
