Alberto Mantovani, a Milanese physician, is professor emeritus at Humanitas University, and scientific director of IRCCS Istituto Clinico Humanitas. He previously worked in England and the United States, and was head of the Department of Immunology at the Mario Negri Institute in Milan. He has contributed to the advancement of knowledge in immunology by both formulating new paradigms and identifying new molecules and functions. He is the most cited Italian researcher in the international scientific literature, the most cited immunologist in Europe and one of the most cited in the world. He has received numerous national and international awards and prizes for his research activities.
