Human Technopole announces new President and Supervisory Board
Milan, 13 July 2022 – The Presidency of the Council of Ministers by means of a Decree signed on 7 July 2022 has appointed Professor Gianmario Verona, rector of Bocconi University in Milan, as the new President of the Supervisory Board of the Human Technopole Foundation. In its new composition, the Foundation’s Supervisory Board includes as new members Serena Sileoni, Francesca Pasinelli, Giuseppe Ippolito and Maura Francese who join the already appointed Giovanna Iannantuoni, Massimo Inguscio, Biagio Mazzotta, Maria Grazia Roncarolo, Gianluca Vago and Alessandro Vespignani and re-nominated Marcella Panucci.
“I am very honoured to be able to contribute in the coming years to the development of Human Technopole, a new excellence in the field of life sciences that strengthens Milan’s international vocation. The multidisciplinary approach, openness to computational sciences and data are the future, a future that has already begun here thanks to the work of researchers, the administrative support staff, director Iain Mattaj and my predecessor Marco Simoni.“, stated Gianmario Verona. “The impact of our frontier research and its contribution to personalised and preventive medicine will continue to grow also thanks to collaborations with other scientific institutes in an open science environment. To use a metaphor, in the next few years we will move from the start-up phase to the scale-up phase. The challenge I have before me, as an innovation scholar, is extremely fascinating and I thank the Prime Minister Mario Draghi, the HT Foundation and its founding members, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of University and Research and the Ministry of Health, for the prestigious role they have entrusted me with.”
“On behalf of Human Technopole, I am pleased to welcome Prof. Verona and the new board members. I would like to thank the outgoing President Prof. Marco Simoni, who has led the Foundation since its early days, and board members Donatella Sciuto, Roberta Siliquini, Mauro Marè and Marco Mancini for their valuable work during the initial, delicate start-up phase of Human Technopole. After four years and despite the difficulties of the pandemic, HT has grown progressively and today we are a busy institute with scientists joining us from some of the best research centres in the world,” said HT director Prof. Iain Mattaj.
“The appointment of Gianmario Verona is a success of and for Human Technopole, which will be able to count on his vision and experience for the important growth challenges of the coming years. I am proud to hand him the keys of an institute that four years ago was just a project and today is a centre of scientific excellence, strong internationality, composed of more than 300 people from 27 countries around the world. I am sure that HT’s contribution to Italian and international science will continue to grow. I am very grateful for the opportunity I have received: building from scratch a reality of this importance is a rare experience; the results we have achieved are due to the extraordinary work of those who have committed themselves together with me to the project, starting with the Supervisory Board members with whom we have shared four significant years, as well as, of course, Director Mattaj and the entire scientific and administrative structure that has gradually been established. Best wishes to President Verona and all the new Supervisory Board members,” said Marco Simoni.
